Fukushima rocked by 6.2 quake

Earthquake with a strength of 6.2 on the Richter scale rocked Fukushim Prefecture, northeastern Japan, and surrounding areas on Monday (7/25/2011) morning, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

Epicenter, which occurred at 03:51 local time (or 05:51 GMT), around 40 kilometers below sea off the coast of Fukushima, she said.

There has been no reports of casualties or property damage, and no tsunami warning issued, Xinhua news agency reported.


Shocks, Xinhua said, also felt in the Japanese capital, Tokyo, which is about 240 kilometers from the prefecture. There has been no report of a nuclear power plant operators who are paralyzed, Fukushima No.1, about an unusual condition caused by the earthquake, the news agency reported.
