Green Book premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 11 2018 and was released in the United States on November 16 2018 on a limited basis and 21 November 2018 widely. The film received positive reviews from critics.
The film tells the story of Frank "Tony Lip" Vallelonga (Viggo Mortensen) who is looking for a new job after his nightclub is closed for renovations and he is interviewed as Don Shirley's personal driver (Mahershala Ali), a famous pianist. Their first meeting was not going well because Tony's behavior was reckless and rude, contrary to Don's gentle and calm attitude.
However, Don finally hired Tony on the advice of several people because he needed someone who could help him avoid problems when his eight-week concert tour through Deep South. They planned to go home on Christmas Eve. Tony was given a copy of the Green Book by the Don recording studio as a guide for black tourists to find safe haven in the entire Deep South region.
