a totally brilliant bike. light, and a dream to pedal. I usually use a high end mountain bike, so thought i would probably just tolerate this bike for commuting and taking onto a bus or train. but it is truly a brilliant bike. the gearing is excellent, and the 8th gear is just fabulous for uphills.
The Liberte bike rides great. Very smooth on my first ride. Very solid feel and was able to get up to road bike average of 20 mph. I was very impressed. I’m an avid cyclist that owns a Colnago and Specialized road bike, a Cervelo time trial bike, and a Bachetta recumbent. I keep all my bikes clean, serviced, and in tip top shape, with attention to detail. I have to say for the price it’s one of the best deals out there! Components are good quality Shimano and shift smooth. Hinges and quick releases look to be of good quality and function well. As with any bike shipped some minor adjustments may be required. Packing was great and customer service is very prompt and ready to help.
Here's the best thing: this bike was ready to ride in minutes. If you don't like having to mess with gearing or brakes, this is a bike to get. Gearing is dialed-in, without not of the derailleur noise from cheaper new bikes, when the chain is between cogs. Brakes are the best I've felt on any bike, with a slight squeeze bringing you to a controlled halt. After two months of ownership I did make one adjustment to the rear brake, that took all of five minutes.
Inflate the tires to at least 80PSI and you're rolling. I've owned a couple of expensive bikes over the years, and the Liberte is right there with them. Handling is ideal, and nimble, turning boring commutes into enjoyable outings.
Folding takes about 20 seconds. It can be tricky at first to get the handlebars in the right position. But once you've gone through the motion 2-3 times, it's all natural.
